Core & Breakout Sessions

CORE SESSIONS

DEEPLY ROOTED IN THE GOSPEL (Brian Sauvé)
We live in a world of information overload. Between blogs, books, and social media, there are tons of resources offering hope and encouragement to life's problems. Brian Sauvé, the pastor of Preaching & Vision at Refuge Church in Ogden, Utah, will aim to fling every part of our lives into orbit around the Gospel, revealing this message as the answer to our every question, need, and longing.
THEOLOGY FOR THE DEEPLY ROOTED BELIEVER (Glenn Jago)
Theology was never intended for the academic world only. In fact, all, whether believers or unbelievers, practice theology every time they think, speak, or apply Scripture's content to their life or their situation. The goal is to think, speak, and apply Scripture accurately for the purpose of biblical sharing, growth, and edification.
YOUR QUIET TIME SHOULD CHANGE YOU (2-Part Session - Jen Wilkin)
“Time in the Word”, “quiet time”, “time with the Lord” – however you label it, devoting time to personal reflection and interaction with the Bible is a vital practice for the believer. But what makes that time transformational? Are all approaches equally valuable? How can we practice “time in the Word” in a way that compounds our understanding and fuels our sanctification?
TRANSFORMATIVE APOLOGETICS: SHOULDN'T THE REALITY OF GOD CHANGE OUR LIVES? (Mary Jo Sharp)
The existence of God as a real being; that he is the creator of all reality should have noticeable impact in our lives. Others should see evidence of our belief and trust in a real God. This session gives three practical steps towards demonstrating the reality of God, including honesty with ourselves, honesty with others, honesty with transformation. It is, in part, a response to the atheist article, "Do Christians really believe what they say and feel they believe? What’s going on here?"
ENCOUNTERING THE PROBLEM OF EVIL IN EVERYDAY CONVERSATIONS (Mary Jo Sharp)
The problem of evil is certainly the greatest obstacle to belief in the existence of God. It is commonly stated, "If God is good, why is there so much evil in the world?" However, it is also frequently stated in relationship to personal suffering, "If God is good, why did He allow my child to die?" This session is a three-step approach to how to recognize and effectively converse on the problem of evil in daily life.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS

SHOW ME YOUR GOD(S): LIVING A LIFE OF WORSHIP (Brian Sauvé)
Worship goes way beyond music in a church service. As Christians, we spend out lives worshipping but so often we fall prey to idolizing the created rather than the Creator. In this breakout session, Pastor Brian Sauvé will examine the gods we tend to worship and give practical application to keep you focused on the good God who is worthy of our worship.
THE PRIORITY IN PRAYER (Glenn Jago)
This breakout session is about challenging the believer to know that the significance of prayer is not about getting what one wants, but rather growing in the knowledge of their identity and how to live in total dependence on the Lord. The person attending this class will be challenged to increase their prayer life while learning to trust in God's power and control (God's transcendence and immanence) over everything. As a result they will experience the absolute value and joy in calling on the name of the Lord in prayer and leaving the results in his loving hands. The Scripture emphasis will be taken from Psalm 34 and Ephesians 3:14-21.
APOLOGETICS FOR THE AVERAGE CHRISTIAN: BASIC WAYS TO PLANT GOSPEL SEEDS (Mark Farnham)
Many Christian women feel out of their league when questions or objections are raised against their faith. Learning what it takes to defend their faith seems too difficult or impractical. However, God never intended that apologetics be limited to a few intellectual giants. Every Christian is enabled by the Spirit and the Word to know, share and defend her faith with confidence. This workshop is designed to start at the beginning and build your ability and confidence to do just that!
DEEPLY ROOTED MARRIAGE: HOW THE GOSPEL PROVIDES RICH SOIL FOR FRUITFUL MARRIAGE (Mark and Adrienne Farnham)
The tragedy of failed marriages can be found everywhere. We all fear at times that our marriage won’t weather the storms. The gospel, however, provides the tenacious root system needed to survive the seasons of life and to produce the abundant fruit of lasting love, joy, and hope. This workshop unpacks the gospel truths that anchor our marriages to the Rock, Jesus Christ.
WHOLEHEARTED MOM, WHOLEHEARTED CREATIVE (Ann Swindell)
In the season of motherhood, what does it look like to wholeheartedly pursue our other passions without neglecting the holy work of being a mom? Can we do both--and do them both well? In this session, Ann Swindell--author, speaker, and Writing with Grace instructor--will share how she has experienced the grace of God to do both: to give her whole heart to the mission of motherhood, and to give her whole heart to her work as a creative entrepreneur. Ann will walk us through the Word together, helping us to embrace Biblical truth that will fuel and empower us to fulfill all of our callings with Christ at the center.
REDEFINED: OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST (Gretchen Saffles)
Christ “redefined” us at the cross. He wiped away who we once were and has made us new and “alive” in Him. This changes everything about who we are, what we do, and what we crave in this world. Identity struggles are something that even Christian women struggle with (past sins/scars, present worries, unknown futures, comparison, confusion, etc.) but when we hold these up to the light of Christ, He shines in the darkness and brings the deeply rooted women a joy that cannot be crushed and a confidence that cannot be broken. In this session attendees will be reminded and encouraged that we have been “redefined” by Christ. It’s not about us, it’s about Him and why this reality brings joy, freedom, and purpose!
RENEWING YOUR MIND - PART 1: THE IMPORTANCE IN SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION (Stephanie Ziebarth)
Memorizing Bible verses is not just for kids. In fact, we all need the transforming power of God’s Word to change us from the inside out. Ministry veteran and mentor, Stephanie Ziebarth, will examine Scripture and explain the importance of memorizing it while sharing personal testimonies of it's value in her own life.
RENEWING YOUR MIND - PART 2: SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION HOW TO (Stephanie Ziebarth)
You can memorize Scripture, even if previous experience has convinced you otherwise. Stephanie Ziebarth will continue her Renewing Your Mind session by giving people of different learning styles helpful techniques (and even a system) for committing God’s Word to memory. Attend this seminar with an open mind and a hunger for God’s Word.
    BEGINNER'S CALLIGRAPHY (Alyssa Thiel)

FIRST WE READ, THEN WE WRITE (Lexy Sauvé)
Most writers instinctively enjoy the practice of keeping notes, journals, commonplaces, annotating everything they read, and marking down their thoughts in the margins of text. Lexy Sauvé, a pastor's wife, blogger, and editor at Deeply Rooted, will address how we can use our reading to fuel and produce thoughtful writing for the glory of God.
"BE DEEPLY ROOTED" EMBROIDERY DIY (Lindsay Smith)

WOODEN SPOON CARVING WORKSHOP (Michael Smith)
Starting from a precut spoon blank attendees will learn to make a wood spoon while using just a few tools. Specific topics include how to hollow out the bowl, shape the handle and back, and finish with sanding. The best part is you get to leave the class with your very own hand made spoon and all supplies -- a 15 mm spoon gouge, a Mora carving knife, a clamp and sandpaper -- are included and will go home with you.  Spoon carving is fun and easy for anyone to learn.
INSTAGRAM FOR THE GLORY OF GOD - PART 1 (Gretchen Saffles)

Social media can be both a beautiful platform to share Christ as well as a destructive tool of the enemy to tear us down and trip us up. It can steal precious time or it can encourage us with truth. It can point people to Christ or it can cause us to compare and criticize. As believers, we have the upper-hand in this fight. We can choose to use our social media profiles to point to the grace, hope, and love of Jesus Christ. We can post for the fame of our Savior by the power of the Holy Spirit. The treasure of the Gospel is too good not to share. He is worthy of our attention and mighty to use even a tool like Instagram to bring Him glory. In this session, Gretchen Saffles will discuss how we can use Instagram as a tool for sharing the Gospel by first cultivating an intimate walk with the Lord, guarding our hearts, and sharing the truth of Christ unashamedly and in a beautiful and authentic way.

INSTAGRAM FOR THE GLORY OF GOD - Part 2: CURATING AND CREATING AN ENGAGING FEED (Char Newswanger)
God created us to respond and connect to visuals that are real and beautiful. Combining beautiful photos with a clear message and values that resonate is powerful. Instagram enables us to do that and gives us the platform to connect with so many others. In this class, Char Newswanger of Char Co. (@charco)  will cover simple tips that will take your feed from average to beautiful. Topics will include photography, style, aesthetic, composition, editing, and engagement tips.
